History of the Rainbow Academy Child Care Center Carol Stream Illinois

Rainbow Academy has been offering quality childcare to the Carol Stream community and surrounding areas since 1983. Since 1983, Rainbow has expanded from a licensed capacity facility of 80 children to a licensed capacity facility of 200 children.

In April 2006, Rainbow Academy moved to its new, state-of-the-art, 15,000 square foot facility.

Rainbow Academy is the only privately owned childcare center in our area. Rainbow cares for children six weeks to twelve years old, while offering a multitude of services to fit the needs of our parents. During the past twenty-four years, Rainbow Academy has been a leader in designing and implementing innovative programs and services for our community. During the past years, entrepreneurs and local school districts have asked for advice and consultation on how to successfully integrate inclusion for all children.

Karen Daniel, founder of Rainbow Academy, was a Special Education teacher. When her youngest child, Jessica was born, quality childcare was almost non-existent. Because of the lack of quality childcare, Karen decided to leave teaching and open her own childcare center. This solution took care of two issues: Jessica would have quality care AND so would all the other children who enrolled at Karen’s new center!

Child’s Work, Inc. childcare center was opened in 1978. Within one year Child’s World established an excellent reputation and had an extensive waiting list. Because of limited expansion capabilities, this fifty-child capacity childcare center was sold in 1983 with a full enrollment and a waiting list.

In 1983, Karen A. Daniel opened Rainbow Academy, Inc. Childcare Center with an eighty-child capacity. Because of the growth in the community and the need for quality childcare, Rainbow Academy more than doubled in size. Rainbow is one of the largest childcare centers in the western suburbs and one of the largest privately owned childcare centers in the state of Illinois.
